Socialite series: Manufacturing your Personality
So you want to get into high society. I can give you a guideline as to how you can do that.Â
I was born in high society, in India. I know how these systems work. Even across cultures, theyâre quite similar. I know some German, Asian, American high society people. Certain things are very similar across continents.Â
You can permanently secure your position by two ways: marriage, or by becoming somebody.Â
In Indian high society, thereâs two kinds of people: those who have lineage, and those who are rich.Â
Those who have lineage are those (mostly bankrupt) Maharajas, artists, singers, musicians, poets for generations - itâs an art form or royalty handed down to their children. They have â¨culture, a legacy⨠that can only be obtained by birth. They want to mingle with the business rich so that they get access to the opportunities they need for their livelihoods.Â
The business rich can be new or old money. It doesnât matter. Their businesses are family businesses. They have money, but may lack class. Donât be mistaken that only new money can be âtackyâ - I know plenty of influential, old money families who are equally classless and tacky.Â
They want to mingle with the lineage crowd because they need that â¨culture⨠to be seen as someone. They want to be associated with them, to improve their reputations. By connecting to the artistic and musical world, it shows that they have class and persona.Â
Both groups, as you see, need each other. You may ask - canât there be families where thereâs both?
Yes there can. But that is not common.Â
Letâs say you take the route of dating someone who is of high society, and are hoping to convert that into marriage. Iâll be very honest with you - you have to seriously stand out for Asian and Middle Eastern high society families to accept you if you lack both lineage and money.Â
You need to have a strong educational background - you need to go to a great college or masters, or whatever - otherwise this is really not going to happen. This is requirement number 1. If you donât have this, donât even bother reading the rest.Â
And in Asian and ME families, remember one thing. Marriages are between families, NOT individuals. You have to impress the family, the familyâs friends, their maids and barbers and god knows who else.Â
And here are Cherryâs insider tips, just for you, to fit right in. If you fit in comfortably, it makes your life and everyone elseâs life easier.Â
Extrovert tendenciesÂ
donât be intimidated by people, donât be shy or awkwardÂ
Itâs better to mix in being a combination of âsocial + slightly boredâ like âitâs nice to meet you, but I wouldnât die to be here.âÂ
Be open without jumping around like a Disney kid. Being âoverexcitedâ or jumpy, smiling and laughing at just about everything comes across as weird in some cultures, IF thatâs not how you genuinely are. That might work in the US, but not everywhere else.Â
If I had to very simply define an extrovert - approach new people with ease, learn the art of small talk and be a good listener.Â
ConfidentÂ
have a sense of self: career, hobbies, likes or dislikes, experiences
Be a multi faceted person. Do things that YOU like. If you like reading Japanese literature and collecting quartz, great! Thatâs your thing!Â
Good communication skills
articulate, small talk abilities, good listener, curious, engaging
be able to tell little stories about yourself without giving everything awayÂ
Well dressedÂ
do an image consultation for your colours, understand your body shape type and find a style that works for you
Create a capsule wardrobe that is timelessÂ
Remember - modesty is ALWAYS the best idea for any event.Â
Posture - stand up straight, be able to walk in heels, sit without slouching
if you donât know how to walk in heels, learn to. Practice it.Â
Sit up straight, do some yoga or something for good postureÂ
Maintenance- good skin, hair, fit body, skin, nails, teeth; good hygiene; smell goodÂ
hygiene comes first. Shower regularly, wash your hair as often as needed.Â
Put on perfume.Â
Find a make up style that works for you. Again, this takes practice. It took me years to figure out what kind of eyeliner works on my eyes and that bronzer doesnât suit me at all. Crazy make up, unnatural hair colours, visible tattoos or piercings will not sit well in these societies.Â
EtiquetteÂ
dining etiquette- learn how to eat properly. This is not just for white culture but for other cultures as well. Understand broadly how popular cultures etiquettes work - Japanese eating etiquettes, European fork and knife etiquette, Korean drinking etiquette, Indian and Middle Eastern etiquette, etc.Â
giving appropriate gifts to the host - bottle of wine or flowersÂ
Learn thank you etiquette- shoot a text message to the host thanking them for the eventÂ
Intelligence
Show that you have some sort of a personality.Â
Stay updated with current affairs
know your line of work and the relevant people (top companies, CEOs, etc), trends happening in your industryÂ
Be open to learning new things Â
Put together
have a routine, show some form of discipline.Â
This can be done by committing to something long term, such as healthy habits - exercise, reading, waking up early.Â
Keep a watch on what you sayÂ
people, especially women, who come across as bratty are seen as a big no no and can come across as exhausting and blood sucking. Zip it.Â
Donât talk about your failures, vulnerabilities, mistakes or mishaps. Thatâs confidential.Â
Donât complain or be snotty or a potty mouth.Â
Do not put other people down in front of people who are not your absolute close friends.Â
Poise (this is for your mental health and wellbeing)
Donât be over eager. Being overly friendly can be seen as submissiveness.Â
Youâre overly friendly with someone because you want to be accepted by them. Acceptance only happens when youâre familiar with one another. When you become too familiar, it becomes a breeding ground for disrespect. Boundaries get crossed easily.Â
Body language
practice practice and practice.Â
Video yourself and have a fake conversation with someone. Or maybe FaceTime a friend and record yourself and see how you react to things.Â
I used to watch those âtry not to laugh/ get angry/ cryâ videos to maintain a strong facial expression at all times. Not everyone deserves to see you vulnerable.Â
Social mediaÂ
Take. Shit. Down.Â
Go private if you donât make money of social media. Youâre perceived as more mysterious if youâre a private account.Â
Remember, even if youâre private, it doesnât mean that your pictures arenât being shared. Someoneâs taken a screenshot at some point for SURE or shown your account to someone else. Donât give anyone anything to talk about.Â
Donât upload every second of every day.Â
Donât upload anything questionable- your break ups, your new boyfriend, girls nights, clubbing, your latest shopping spree etc etc. Keep things halal. Think of it this way - if your boss were to see those photos, how would you feel?
Overexposing yourself on social media comes across as desperate for attention. Limit that.
Cherry đ

Elevating Your Personal Brand for 2025: Your Online Presence
In todayâs digital age, your online presence is one of the most powerful tools you have to shape your personal brand. Whether you're looking to land a dream job, build a side hustle, or simply embody a more refined and elegant lifestyle, curating a sophisticated and luxurious digital image can make all the difference.
If you're ready to elevate your online presence with class, elegance, and a touch of luxury, youâre in the right place. In this guide, weâll walk you through the step-by-step process of refining your personal brand and creating an online identity thatâs poised, polished, and truly you.
Step 1: Define Your Personal Brand Vision
Before you start curating content, itâs essential to get clear on what you want your personal brand to represent. What does luxury, class, and elegance mean to you? Your personal brand should reflect your unique style, interests, values, and aspirations. Itâs about crafting an image that feels authentic to you, yet elevated to match the lifestyle you desire.
Action Steps:
Write down your core values. These might include qualities like elegance, kindness, professionalism, creativity, or adventure. These will guide your brandâs tone and messaging.
Visualize your ideal lifestyle. What do you want your life to look like in 5 or 10 years? Let that vision inspire how you portray yourself online.
Identify role models. Think about women you admire (public figures, entrepreneurs, or influencers) whose personal brands resonate with you. What elements of their style, approach, or values can you incorporate into your own online presence?
Step 2: Curate Your Aesthetic
Your aesthetic plays a huge role in creating a luxurious and elegant online presence. A cohesive and thoughtful aesthetic conveys sophistication and attention to detail, whether it's through your Instagram feed, personal website, or blog. You want your digital space to be visually appealing, refined, and purposeful.
Action Steps:
Choose a color palette. Soft neutrals like beige, cream, white, and blush pink often convey a sense of luxury, while gold accents or muted jewel tones can add a touch of glamour. Make sure the colors you choose reflect the vibe you want to communicate.
Select your fonts carefully. Opt for classic, timeless fonts like serif fonts or clean sans-serif styles for a minimalist, chic look. Keep your typography consistent across all platforms.
Create a content plan. Plan your photos and posts to fit into your aesthetic. Whether you're showcasing your fashion, lifestyle, or business endeavors, ensure each piece contributes to the refined image you're building.
Step 3: Perfect Your Digital Wardrobe
Your online presence should mirror your real-life style, and this doesnât mean you need to wear expensive clothes all the time. It's about cultivating a polished, put-together look that communicates elegance and sophistication.
Action Steps:
Invest in key pieces. Build a capsule wardrobe with timeless, high-quality pieces. Think tailored blazers, elegant dresses, neutral tones, and accessories that elevate your outfits. It's not about having a lot, but rather about having a few, well-chosen items that you wear often and with confidence.
Master the art of styling. Focus on classic silhouettes that flatter your body shape and keep things simple. Less is often more when it comes to cultivating an elegant look.
Show off your style online. Curate photos that highlight your wardrobe choices. Whether you're snapping selfies, sharing outfit posts, or showcasing lifestyle shots, make sure your fashion choices align with your refined brand.
Step 4: Cultivate High-Value Content
Luxury and elegance are not just about aestheticsâtheyâre about substance too. High-quality content that reflects your values, expertise, and passions will elevate your online presence in ways that go beyond just a pretty picture. Whether youâre sharing beauty tips, fashion advice, or personal development insights, make sure your content is valuable and thoughtful.
Action Steps:
Share your expertise. What are you passionate about? Whether itâs personal development, fitness, wellness, fashion, or business, share your knowledge and insights with your audience in a way that adds value. Offer tips, tutorials, and advice that make people feel inspired and empowered.
Focus on storytelling. People connect with stories. Share moments from your life that showcase your growth, your achievements, and your journey toward a more luxurious lifestyle. Make your audience feel like they are a part of your world.
Consistency is key. Post regularly, whether itâs daily, weekly, or biweekly. The more you show up with valuable content, the more your audience will trust and admire your brand.
Step 5: Cultivate Grace and Confidence
A huge part of elegance and luxury is not just how you look, but how you carry yourself. Cultivating confidence, grace, and poise in all your online interactions is crucial to building a brand that feels truly elevated.
Action Steps:
Be kind and respectful. The way you engage with your audience speaks volumes. Respond to comments thoughtfully, offer encouragement, and be gracious with your interactions. Classiness is often reflected in your communication.
Maintain boundaries. Itâs important to stay authentic, but also protect your personal life. Keep your online persona polished by sharing only what you feel comfortable with, while leaving room for privacy.
Embrace a positive mindset. Luxury is as much a state of mind as it is a lifestyle. Cultivate a mindset of abundance, and focus on uplifting others. This positive energy will naturally translate into your online presence.
Step 6: Network with Like-Minded Individuals
To truly elevate your brand, itâs important to surround yourself with people who share similar goals and values. Networking with other women who embody elegance, class, and luxury will help you grow, both personally and professionally.
Action Steps:
Engage with like-minded influencers. Follow, comment, and build relationships with women who inspire you. Share their content, collaborate on projects, or simply connect over mutual interests.
Attend online events. Participate in webinars, virtual conferences, and online workshops to connect with other professionals in your industry.
Leverage social media platforms. Use platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Pinterest to network, share your expertise, and build meaningful connections that can help you advance your personal brand.
Step 7: Stay Authentic and Evolve
Finally, remember that a truly luxurious and elegant brand is one that remains authentic. As you grow and evolve, so should your brand. Donât be afraid to adapt, try new things, or shift your focus. Your journey toward elegance and luxury is a continual process, and your brand should reflect the authentic version of yourselfâtoday and in the future.
Action Steps:
Evaluate and adjust. Regularly check in with yourself and assess if your online presence still aligns with your vision. If it doesn't, make adjustments to reflect where you are now.
Embrace change. Your tastes, interests, and goals will evolve as you grow. Embrace these changes and let them shape your brand naturally.
Conclusion: Own Your Elegance, Own Your Brand
Building a luxurious, classy, and elegant online presence is about more than just aesthetics. Itâs about curating a personal brand that reflects your true self and communicates your aspirations. By following these steps, youâll elevate your digital persona and create a brand that resonates with authenticity, grace, and sophistication.
Remember, elegance isnât about perfectionâitâs about being the best version of yourself, every day. So go ahead, step into your power, and own your unique, elevated online presence. The world is waiting to see the graceful, confident woman you are becoming.

Things you learned about fashion?
If you want to look good, you have to be willing to invest in quality clothing. This doesnât mean that you have to spend thousands and thousands, but it does mean that youâll have to stop shopping at Shein. I have so many cute things from Target, Walmart, and Old Navy, and they were a bit more of an investment, but these stores have frequent sales and the quality is better, so youâll have to replace things less often. Look for sales, shop the clearance rack, thrift, and stick to a budget, but donât fill your closet with fast fashion.
Â
Your clothing needs to fit and be comfortable. If you want to look good, then you have to feel good; your bra canât be digging into your back, your pants canât be falling down, and you shouldnât be wearing things that are obviously too small or too large. If this means buying tall pants instead of regular-fit pants, getting your clothing tailored to fit your body, or just buying the right size, then so be it. You have to wear the clothes; you canât be afraid of them.
Â
Dressing appropriately is extremely important. Contrary to popular belief, you can be totally overdressed for an event or regular every day life, and thatâs not necessarily a good thing. I used to dress exactly the way I wanted to dress to events that didnât call for the level of formality I was exhibiting, and I didnât look bad; I just stuck out like a sore thumb. Thereâs no dress code for every day life, but you should learn how to read the dress code for each of the situations and scenarios youâre setting yourself up to enter.
Â
Capsule wardrobes donât work for everyone, and thatâs alright. I hate reading fashion posts that push for only having the bare minimum because some of us enjoy having more. Am I encouraging rampant overconsumption and buying things just because you can? Absolutely not. What Iâm saying is that itâs okay to do your own thing and find what works best for you and your lifestyle. I donât buy every single piece from the new collections that drop at the stores I love, but I do treat myself to one or two. You donât have to limit yourself to the minimum if you donât want to, but you also donât have to buy everything. Thereâs a medium; you have to find your medium and stick to it.
Â
Your style is part of your aesthetic. I looked my worst when I didnât know how to dress myself, didnât know how to style my hair or do my makeup, and didnât know how to buy things that flattered me. Iâm able to overaccessorize to my heartâs content, wear any color that flatters me, and pull outfits together without having to think twice because I buy things that I know suit me and suit each other. The things I buy reflect the image of myself I have in my mind; I make sure that theyâre high quality and aesthetically pleasing, and I make sure that they fit in with the bigger picture that Iâm trying to create.

SPIN OFF for COLOUR ME YOUR COLOUR and RUSH
"there'll be no spring if not for this love of mine"
summary: posts and tweets exchanged between lester and others during the baku race weekend as she babysat toto and tilly wolff's children. OR chaos ensues in the paddock and the hospitalities as the wolff kids and an asshole ex-lover (is he really?) made their presence known to almost anyone
content warning: character-centric, mentions of questionable man, appearance of characters not yet shown in the series colour me your colour, toto wolff being canonically fashionable, use of explicit language, faceclaims used for the kids, danny is full on babygirl in the instagram comment section. f1 drivers being messy.
note: sorry for the awol guys, i was walking my fish. tomorrow is the start of the canadian gp 2023 and i am sad that i am not there. maybe next year when i have the money? or maybe when i work for pr. who knows. since i'm not there, i'm just celebrating and writing this.

masterlist
[first image dialogue: i don't normally look at the time because i dress faster than this. i even dress ren and tia for less than seven minutes and they're always dressed nicely for their music classes]
[second image: if they're dressed ten minutes after, that's not my doing; toto dresses them and he struggles a lot. he mostly gets them ready if he's taking them to work or if i'm off to a meeting in milton keynes]
[third image: we've made a lot of trips to ralph lauren and tommy hilfiger because he thinks that he can just mix and match the clothes that we got there for the bunch. said it's a "capsule wardrobe." that's what happens when you're married to a fashion expert, i suppose.]
[fourth image: you'll be able to know if he dresses them once you see the jumper/dress shorts/trousers combo or the dress/jumper combo. you'll know he did the preparing if tia's hair is put in place with a hair clip. she loves it when her papa puts in barrettes in her thin hair.]

âRosy Blog Chicâ Makes itâs comeback for Spring
What is Rosy Blog Chic? Take a deep dive to 2013-2014 with me, the era of Instagram filters (No, not the face ones-- the original presets on the editing tool) Ariana Grandeâs Yours Truly album and its impact on fashion at the time, and OG tumblr core. As Spring rolls around, I feel myself reaching for the same pins on pinterest that I did back on Weheartit in 2014... and Iâm ready to bring it all back.Â
The year is 2013, and you are sat in your bedroom watching Zoella on Youtube and painting your nails in a DIY manicure. Something about this era screams early girlhood, having fun and not caring if something is perfect, as long as it looks pretty. At the time, tumblr and Weheartit was alive with ârosy blogsâ, and if you search hard enough-- the graveyards of abandoned blogs still remain untouched, like a time capsule of such treasured years, reaching its peak at 2014.Â
Where did the name ârosy blogâ come from?
No one knows. After many google searches, and coming up with nothing -- I can only assume it was coined from the huge insurgence in ârose goldâ at itâs time, florals and roses being featured in lots of rosy blog posts, and the ârosyâ warm, pinky filter that was laid over all the images to give it that classic look it was known for. These days, the aesthetic is more popularly claimed as âgirly 2014 aestheticâ, âyours truly eraâ or simply â2014 coreâ. As a long time girly girl, I am truly advocating to bring this style back. Hereâs how.Â
FLORALS, FLORALS, FLORALS.Â
Taking a step back into this era, what better time to incorporate floral prints into your wardrobe that spring? Ditzy print, crowded florals on dresses and skirts and sunflower crop tops (Think old American Apparel) are the perfect ways to incorporate a Rosy chic back into your wardrobe. Itâs girly, and can be worn super casually as these are not items that technically ever went out of fashion or became played out.Â
DOT, DOT, DOT...
Undeniably, polka dot was huge in this era. Something about it can be so youthful, whilst also carrying this timeless chic that is vaguely reminiscent of the 50â˛s/60â˛s (See Audrey Hepburn, or kitschy housewife aesthetic) A simple black and white will totally do the trick maybe with pearl accessories or ribbon embellishments but a pink and white polkadot is super adorable too!Â
WHAT BRANDS?
When looking back at the fashion of this era, a few brands stick out to me as being staples of their time. Thanks to early Ariana Grande, Wildfox became hugely popular-- especially in their knit pull overs, sweaters, and sunglasses. They were often pastel colours, donning some kind of cute cartoon print over the top such as a rainbow, or hearts. Another big brand that took over this time period would be American Apparel, and a quick search into âvintage American Apparelâ or selling sites would lead you exactly to what you need, the same goes for Vintage Victoriaâs Secret PINK items -- however you might find some luck in their current resurgence of âOriginalsâ now being sold on the website. I recently copped some OG fold over leggings! For more girly, era relevant brands-- look into H&M, Brandy Melville, vintage Topshop, Hollister and Abercrombie for that classic girly girl look. Or, dig back into your closet and see if you kept anything from this era!
COLLAGE AND PIC EDITING GALORE
To truly encapsulate the way this era unfolded, try your hand at taking cute pictures and laying an warm-vanilla toned filter preset over the top. In this era, people would take pictures of just about anything cutesy-- think your cute tea mug, a girly phone case, your strawberries and nutella mid day snack, this could even consist of whatever show youâre watching on Netflix photographed on your laptop on some sweet bed covers -- the perfect hobby for a lazy day! If you want to take it that step further, collate these pictures into a bordered collage to really push that early-years-instagram aesthetic.Â
SO...WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?Â
To begin with outfits, there are a few staples I would look out for. When thinking Rosy Blog Chic, what springs to mind instantly is a bralet / crop top paired with a skater skirt. At first glance, this sounds totally out dated-- but to me, there is something so timeless about these kind of looks. This will be perfect as the weather warms up, but whilst its still cold, you can always pair it with a chunky knit cardigan and tights-- also staples of its time. Pumps, mary-janes, brogues and flats are all appropriate shoe choices for this look.Â
Another casual look that is less strictly 2014 would be an off the shoulder sweater, leggings / yoga pants, and a pair of ugg boots. This is more appropriate for colder days and definitely will give you an old school Victorias Secret model off duty look.Â
A common theme in this era of online photoâs was pyjamas! Again, perfect for a lazy day-- the girl behind the camera was often seen to be donning full length or shorts and a tshirt sleepwear in cute prints and colours. Whether it be VS classic stripes, polkadot/animal print, vintage Disney movie print, florals, it doesnât matter as long as itâs cute.Â
To accessorize, bows were a huge deal. Whether its clipped to your pony, worn on your handbag or simply just there for decorating, oversized bows were one of the first trends Ariana Grande brought to the internet. The accessory portion of Rosy Blog Chic seemed to take a more classic, timeless and girly route that can often be seen in modern Coquette fashion today-- meaning ribbons, pearls, and lace to up the girly factor by 10.Â
Try your hand at home made manicures if you are currently giving your nails a rest from Acrylics or gels! Essie nail polish was at its peak during this era, as everyone seemed to be rocking natural length pale pink nails! I love long nails, and they were still super popular-- this is just for those who want to give their nails a rest.Â
Did I miss anything? Let me know! I hope to be seeing Rosy Blog Chic more and more this spring!Â

Putting this beneath the cut bc it discusses weight loss and I don't want to make anybody feel any kind of way.
So after mirtazapine fucked up my body image thanks to the constant hunger cravings it induces, I lost â¨30 lbs⨠last year and now I can finally buy clothes I'm excited to wear again, rather than like "well I'll buy a few things that will serve a purpose for now, but I'm not gonna waste money on a tonne of clothes that'll just be too big for me when I shed this weight again".
But now that I'm out of that territory and back towards a size I'm personally happy with, I've been spending this month buying clothes I'm actually enthusiastic about - beyond like, workout gear. SO I've built up a, mostly thrifted, somewhat historybounding-leaning capsule wardrobe that I'm very excited about!!
It's a style I've found so interesting for so long, and it just feels good to be stoked about fashion choices again rather than approaching it from a place of "well, I'm not naked, that's something."
Like it's hardly Bernadette Banner levels of cool, but I'm so happy with it đŤ đŤ đŤ đŤ
Plus now I can MAKE things to wear too, that won't just be too big and unwearable in a few months.

In 2017, after 2 years wearing lolita fashion, I decided to feature myself in a photography project.
These images are like a time capsule of my wardrobe at the time, as well as my photography skill.
I could do so much better today I think. (ignoring my photography burnout)
Regardless, it's fun to look back and what you once were, and where you are now.

15th Anniversary
Perfume: âż (2009.07.08)
Back in 2009 I named Perfume's âż (pronounced "triangle") one of the most disappointing albums of the year. Disappointing didn't mean it was bad, but rather, I had oversized expectations that weren't met, and can you blame a fan for having such huge expectations after GAME? GAME was Perfume's first studio album, and the perfect blueprint for the Perfume-sound worked out and solidified after a string of experimental indie singles, all spearheaded by mastermind Yasutaka Nakata. Butâż was the album that could prove that Perfume was more than just a novelty, and that Nakata was more than an over-hyped producer-of-the-month. The album did extremely well: It hit #1 and stayed in the top 20 for six weeks. It has spawned some of Perfume's most well-known and beloved singles, including "love the world," "Dream Fighter," and their last #1 to date, "ONE ROOM DISCO" (most of their subsequent singles, including the eight immediately after this one, stubbornly peaked at #2). So why was I disappointed at the time, and how has hindsight changed the way I see this album?
âż is one of the more innovative albums in Perfume's discography, and today it's seen as one of their best, the type of album able to marry classic pop music with the broader electronic and house styles that Nakata was increasingly pushing into his productions. At the same time, it also managed to retain some of the jazzy finishes of his Shibuya-kei roots, all while retaining a fresh, commercial appeal perfect for shilling chocolate on television. In many ways, this was peak-Nakata: in 2009, the year âż was released, he had just released Supreme Show, his collaboration with Ami Suzuki; STEP, his second album with MEG; and the house-heavy MORE! MORE! MORE! with capsule. You could forgive the guy for being a bit burned out less than a year later, and to me, one half of âż, the half not consisting of songs written over the course of 2008, shows that fatigue. There's the largely instrumental "edge (âż-mix)" that meanders well past its welcome at nearly 10 minutes long, the mid-tempo duo "Kiss and Music" and "Zero Gravity," and the navel-gazing noodle of "Speed of Sound." These are songs that I initially disliked upon my first listen, although now I have to admit I find them charming call-backs to all the things I miss about this period of Nakata's music, from the push and pull between commercial resistance and total capitulation, to the self-indulgent instincts tempered by moments that feel catered to the broadest audience possible, culminating in great album cuts like "The best thing," "NIGHT FLIGHT" and even "I still love U."
I've spent a lot of time talking about Yasutaka Nakata, but the three women of Perfume, A-chan, Nocchi, and Kashiyuka, are the ones who really bring it all together with their personality and talent. Nakata once again focused on making the most out of the ways he could manipulate their voices, rather than on whatever unique vocal traits any one of them brought, tweaking everything to suit the music, and leaving the other half of Perfume's highly-skilled team of costume designers, choreographers, and light technicians to sell the unit. And they all do, fulfilling crucial elements that move in lockstep. So much of âż was also finally committing to everything that has now become iconic about this group, from haircuts to wardrobe quirks, and the group has rarely deviated from it since. If at any time the group was going to do an image overhaul, this would have been it. Instead, they doubled down on and cemented what is now a comfortable, reliable space that fans have taken for granted.
Though I understand why I was disappointed when this album first came out, I've definitely come to appreciate it a lot more since it was first released, especially in the last five or so years, as Perfume have have gone through even more disappointing, lackluster phases, losing the innovative spirit that made anticipating new releases so fun. But whenever you joined the fandom, whether it was through this album, their earlier work, or that phase where dance music was reluctantly putting itself back together after the EDM firework burst, there are things to love about âż. It's hard to dismiss an album that includes so many classic J-pop songs that went on to change the sound of popular Japanese music for a long time (not taken into account when Billboard critics only ranked "love the world" the #7 best Perfume song of all time, but they put "TOKYO GIRL" and "FLASH" in the top three, so the whole list is sus), inspired a plethora of copy-cat groups, and forever carved Nakata's name into the game-changing J-pop producers Hall of Fame, right next to men like Haruomi Hosono and Tetsuya Komuro.
Since Team Perfume had mostly come to terms with the group's lack of forward momentum in 2016, they really focused on pushing Perfume as a legacy group, and like all legacy groups, that means cashing in on whatever they still could by recycling old music into new formats. That meant that many of Perfume's studio albums that had been originally released in regular CD-only and limited-edition CD+DVD versions were re-released on limited-edition vinyl. All of those were collected in a limited-edition LP box set that also included their second best-of collection, 2012's Perfume Global Compilation "LOVE THE WORLD. But perhaps it was a bit premature. Or rather, it's been a bit of a yo-yo recently -- while Perfume seemed to be making a bit of a comeback in recent years with PLASMA, "Moon" said don't hold your breath. Still, it's been encouraging to think that like now-iconic albums like âż, I might find myself re-evaluating "LOVE CLOUD" someday, too.

The World's Most Sustainable City (That No One Knows About)
The Findhorn community, consisting of about three thousand members, aims to serve as a global example of a green city. As a fan of her music who also happens to be a woman who makes questionable-bad choices â˘ď¸ (though of a different nature), and has blown up aspects of my life in a much smaller scale (because itâs easy for me to have work, friends, family all know a different version of me cause Iâm not a global superstar)âŚ. I very much appreciate Taylor releasing TTPD and letting it all out and sharing such personal details.
As a fan of the woman and only wanting good things for her, I canât help but feel releasing a large portion of TTPD was equally cathartic as it was part of the self harming.
Like itâs cathartic to write and get it all out. And itâs cathartic for her to sing those songs and have them sung back to her because it makes her feel less alone (her words) and I wonder if she feels she has a âdutyâ to release some of this stuff because she knows itâll hopefully resonate with someoneâŚ. But she also painted a very unflattering picture of herself - which I admire cause itâs real and⌠good for her. But for someone who has been so image conscious for nearly 20 years, releasing the songs that paint her in a bad light and make her look psychotic - so much that she in part ANTICIPATED the reaction because she called it a manic phase and self harm⌠like was releasing it part of throwing her life to the wolves or ocean rocks? Is she wanting to be understood by people who donât need to, or donât deserve to understand her and the whole tatty thing? From an image pov, the consensus was she was so heartbroken and fucked in the head that she rebounded with a âloserâ because she was so broken. Did she release all those songs to defend his honour or explain herself? Or just sharing dope songs?
One of the best things my therapist told me was that when I feel misunderstood (which is a lot lol) itâs actually ok and not a bad thing that the person at the post office thinks I shop too much online (but they donât know that Iâm buying things for a side hustle), or that a colleague thought I had no personality for having a capsule wardrobe (I did it to reduce decision fatigue and be economical. I had a uniform and never had to iron, sort my washing or think what to wear). Or a friend thought I was rich cause I went to a string of concerts in a row (she had gone on an overseas vacation, I did not go on a weekend away and just spent my money on concerts and festivals which just all happened to be in the summer). Weird examples, but there wasnât any problem in those people perceiving me the way they did and it didnât affect me in a meaningful way that needed correction. If my colleague thought I didnât shower and said I stank and told HR, or thought I was coming to work high - that is worth saying âumm actuallyâŚâ or if someone thought I was cheating on my partner or doing something bad where it affected those relationships, then itâs important to correct the narrative. This has been a huge issue for me and Iâve worked with my therapist when she realised I was starting a lot of my downfalls by over sharing lmao because I just wanted to be understood and hate hate hate being misunderstood!!!! But ânot everyone needs or deserves to understand youâ honestly changed my life.
Iâve typed too much but idk ijbol but yeah like Iâm not saying Taylor should have kept TTPD in a vault, and there are some songs that wouldnât have added to the shitstorm in Texas. But she created a bigger monster when she released it and idk I just wonder if for her, if that was healthy⌠or if she really wanted the songs in the wild if she would have been better off releasing a âeras from the vaultâ but not saying when the songs were written. Like half could be John mayer smack cams and Smallest Man wouldâve been better received if it was perceived to be him outside the fandom imo lmao.
I love so much of what youâve said and Iâm gonna reread it later because it just hits tbh. I love it. There are so many true things here.
Taylor releasing TTPD should put an end to âshe only does this for cloutâ because yes absolutely she didnât have to tell us all this.
Taylor should go to therapy lol like ofc she should. most of us should and she doesnât have money barriers to it so thereâs no reason she doesnât go regularly (I do think sheâs been but didnât like it and youâre not supposed to every time)
Taylor as of TTPD does not seem well lmao like that shitâs not okay and itâs relatable and stuff and sheâs very productive but she⌠does not seem well⌠and thatâs fine lol Iâm not judging but come the fuck on lol. People acting like sheâs super okay and better than sheâs ever been are a bit weird. She seems unwell but thatâs fine like we all do dumb shit sometimes ykwim?

Two T-Tunics
September 19, 2023
[Image ID: the bodice and sleeves of two basic medieval tunics - one pink and one blue.]
While my ultimate goal with SCA garb is to create a 14th century capsule wardrobe, I know it will be a while before I have the money to buy all the wool and linen I'd need and the time to make anything out of it.
So I'm starting with something more basic. The uniform of SCA-dians everywhere - the T-tunic!
The basic pattern can be adapted to fit many eras, whether as a base layer or fashion layer, as a shirt or a dress.
The Fabric
You can make t-tunics out of basically any fabric. Linen and wool are the most historically-accurate, and silk probably is too.
Unfortunately, that's not really in my budget right now, so I used two thrifted cotton bed sheets, which I think are queen sized. I got two tunics for $5 of fabric!
The Pattern
These tunics are made out of simple geometric shapes - rectangles for the body and sleeve gussets, triangular skirt gores, and either rectangles or trapezoids for sleeves.
To make things easier on myself, I used this "Custom Smock Pattern Generator" from elizabethancostume.net to make the pattern, then cut out the shapes it gave me with added seam allowance.
Assembly
Instructions for assembling a t-tunic have been written probably hundreds of times, so I'll direct you back to elizabethancostume.net to spare you another explanation.
I usually flat-fell seams on things like this, but I wanted to minimize the amount of hand sewing I had to do while also not having any visible machine stitching, so I french seamed everything.
I used a facing for the neckline instead of a binding and hand-sewed the edges of that down.
The sleeve and skirt hems were also hand-sewn.
A Note on Fitting
The smock generator pattern I used takes into account your shoulder width, and seems to direct to instructions on how to measure that, but it wouldn't show up for me. As a result, I suspect my measurement was too narrow.
While the resulting shapes fit well over my bust and waist, I almost couldn't get it on over my shoulders!
Thankfully, I had suspected this issue, so my first smock was a few inches wider than the generated pattern called for. I added a bit more width to my second tunic.
Looking Forward
I'm glad to have a base for my medieval/SCA wardrobe, but I can't wait to expand! I want to do some basic accessories next, like linen veils.
I already have a few other accessories - a thrifted straw hat, one of those long fantasy/ren faire/sorta medieval belts, and a mug.
I also have decent-sized leftovers from these bed sheets - I'll save most of it to line wool hoods, but I'll use some small pieces to make drawstring bags to hang from my belt.
Stay tuned for a post on plotting out my plans for garb! In the meantime,
Stay warm, stay safe, and stay healthy.

PINNED POST
who am i?
someone whoâs been sewing since being voluntold into the puppet factory at age 7. (yes i did grow up in a circus.) a legal adult for decades now but immature enough to get away with calling myself a boy until i die. trans man who dresses like an off duty drag queen. undiagnosed autistic with sensory intolerance for synthetic fibers. proud of my weight gain and not shy to block fatphobic bigots. too arthritic to give a shit about typos or capitalizing. former professional alterations-er. white usamerican who believes strongly in class solidarity across all lines. faggot.
what will you find here?
ive never been good at keeping my tumblr self organized but iâm really going to try to keep this one focused. at first iâll be posting project round ups and picture tutorials as i work through the immense backlog of my stash, but iâd like to answer questions and help folks troubleshoot their own sewing, fitting, and mending problems. theoretically iâd like to do video tutorials but i dont have the time or equipment. certainly some anti-oppression based political analysis and references to the leather community will filter through, and probably some garden and pet pictures. iâm going to be coaching my life and business partner through making their first clothes pretty soon here so that will be posted in some form as well. tips for adapting clothes for sensory issues and physical mobility based disabilities. me fixating on pattern matching to a truly asinine degree. all black projects covered in cat and dog hair that are really hard to photograph well ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
what do i make?
ive made everything from thirty foot puppet costumes to these-jncos-arent-wide-enough industrial high fashion jeans to back support corsets and more but currently my own projects are all about providing me with a wardrobe that a) keeps me warm b) doesnt trigger any sensory issues c) makes me look like hot shit. you could call what iâm working on a capsule wardrobe but really iâd just call myself broke. my idea of looking like hot shit involves seamlessly blending the fashions of a sixty year old redneck who goes to town twice a year, and the hardest fem at goth night.
what am i interested in?
i really like historical fashion, especially viking and pre-viking era scandinavian, medieval british isles, and irish/scottish/english/american from about 1800-1960. (NOT saying that other places dont have incredible clothes and fashion traditions, but sewing is pretty much the backbone of my ancestor workânot nec. reverence bc not all of my ancestors deserve it frankly (though some do) but connection and understandingâso i focus my research and construction where my own ancestors were (if you call yourself folkish you can fuck off and die in a dumpster fire right now and if you dont, dont bother googling they dont deserve your attention)). i often take historical undergarments and adapt them for contemporary outerwear, or blend methods of fit or construction that were traditionally used exclusively for either mens or womens fashion in a single garment. somehow i ended up specializing in flattening out princess seams.
perks
follow me and maybe iâll get someone to video me using the treadle machine which has belonged to my great grandma, my gay great uncle, my gay great uncleâs widower, my mom, and myself
new build project masterlist
alterations project masterlist
tags masterlist
âyouâre really into anti-oppression, why arenât you adding image descriptions?â
a couple reasons. as i mentioned i have a host of disabilities (physical and otherwise). my dayjob involves a lot of computer work, sewing is really hard on my hands and body, i cant always look at screen for very long, and if i made myself wait to post until i could do image descriptions, i would never post at all. i donât think requiring disabled folks to do things they canât is the best approach to radical hospitality. if anyone feels moved to add image descriptions to anything i do, i will reblog their post with the tag âimage descriptions added.â my main aim in starting this blog is to share my knowledge with trans/disabled folks and other people that experience gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, sensory issues, or physical difficulties getting clothes on and off without pain. the typed writeup that will accompany each picture tutorial is my best attempt at sharing my knowledge and processes with anyone who uses a screen reader

i dont know all that much about lolita fashion, though it looks interestingâŚ..but would you mind answering 3, 6 and 18?
YAYYYY n_n THANKYEW 4 DA ASK!
3. what is your current favorite motif?
'm nawt generally super big on like prints or motifs & mostly prefer a plain piece with a nice structure & tasteful design & lace buuuut i do really like tartan.. it's very cute.. can b punky if coorded rite but also i don' even mind it bein' sweet either like. This Dress has a grip on me forever
ik da question implies #1 only buuut i also rlyy like florals 4 obvious reasons like i ain't really into classic lolita usually but...!!! it's da haunted porcelain doll on yer shelf vibes dat get me. florals make me weak like ok roll me into this grandmas couch
there's more.. i like a good applique actually, it's nawt a flat print, ya can feel it & it stands out/pops way more, which 'm rly fond of. i think appliquĂŠs r very cute & once again i find myself likin' ones even outta my lolita style
...like this one!!!!
6. what is something you collect?
i do nawt claim da title of any specific brand collector so far But i really love baby's designs. i won't dare say moi-mĂŞme-moitiĂŠ but i do like their older stuff, STILL over da moon i managed 2 get my hands one o their vintage coats, definitely my most prized piece in my loliwardrobe so far. nawthin' they release today tho. but baby's timeless designs (their re-releaaes) i have my eyes on.. n_n
in a broader sense i collect old school pieces, but i don' focus on buildin' a solely 'authentic' (as in pieces dat r period-accurate) old school wardrobe yet.. :[ i do wanna try buildin' a capsule one but dat will take a while!
18. what are you inspired by?
watever yud expect an old school lolita 2 get inspired by, world's most crusty 4x4 image of a skirt from 1998 on lolibrary with no further description or price tag listed. brand unknown.
apart from dat iiiii really look up 2 a lotta street snaps roughly from 90s til round mid-00s & obvi street fashion magazines of those times
also 'm ofc inspired lots by momoko from kamikaze girls (modeled after yers truly, we r da same person)
also by my fav harajuku brand which is putumayo n_n one of em seasoned lolita brands as well & it leans into punkloli đđź
lastly i also look 4 inspo in vkei & goth subcultures, i like implementin' details dat r nawt necessarily lolita on it's own, but 'm primarily a gothic lolita irl so i like darker stuff 2 add 2 my coords.. n_n so my music taste ties into it really wells
